Foundation Goals:

It is an inevitable trend that Buddhist studies in the 21st century will combine the traditional methods of study with the international standard which is required in the age of globalization. Modern Buddhist studies seeks the maximization of scholastic achievements through inter-disciplinary studies as in the fields of literature, philosophy, history, arts, science, and religion. In this context, it is the right time for scholars around the globe to put their energy together for a more creative and extensive Buddhist studies. Also it is the right moment to introduce the Korean Buddhist studies and achievements which have been accumulated for more than thousand years. In order to meet the needs of the contemporary trend in the B! uddhist studies, International Association for Buddhist Thought & Culture would like to suggest the new vision of the 21st century civilization through the inter-disciplinary studies, the exchange of scholastic information and the support for the globalization of Buddhist studies.

창립취지 :

21세기의 불교학은 전통적인 학문 방법론과 아울러 국제화 시대에 필요한 학문체계를 갖추어 세계 수준의 불교학으로 발전시켜야 할 당위성이 요구되고 있습니다. 또한 현대불교학은 문학, 사학, 철학, 인도철학, 미술사학, 종교학 등의 인문학 제 분야와의 학제 연구를 통하여 그 학적 성과의 극대화를 추구하고 있습니다. 그러기 위해서는 인문학 관련 제 분야의 세계 학자들이 힘을 모아 창조적이고 폭넓은 불교학 연구에 동참의 장을 만들어야 할 필요성이 요청되고 있습니다. 또한 그 동안 축적된 한국불교학의 연구성과와 학문적 전통을 세계를 향하여 이를 열어 보일 때가 되었습니다. 국제불교문화사상사학회의 창립은 이러한 시대적 요청에 부응하여, 불교학자들의 연구의 중심체가 되어, 불교학의 국제화를 위한 연구 지원과 학술정보 교류, 그리고 불교학의 학제 연구를 통하여 21세기 인류 정신문화의 새로운 좌표를 제시하고 합니다.
